So not a new years resolution, but instead my general plans for 2010.
Dunwich Dynamo 2010 (120 Miles overnight from Hackney to Dunwich Beach)
So last year this was my first ever big ride, and it was on Daisy the Tandem with my good friend Karl as Captain and myself as stoker, and apart from the last 10 miles when I had hit the wall and was completely done in I really enjoyed the ride, so have agreed to do it again. Tentatively on Daisy (still nervous about doing this on my own bike), and hopefully we will have a working first gear this time. However, after doing the Oxford to Cambridge under my own steam, I had a big realisation about how much Karl had actually done to get us to the end of the ride, so I will definitely be pedalling harder on the back this time - so if anyone dares to shout “she’s not pedalling at the back mate” they will have the wrath of Von Smallhausen to deal with - after I’ve stitched my split sides back together from laughing so hard obviously…

Run more - I’m not a big runner, can do about half a mile before I run out of steam, but I vaguely recall being told I was doing a marathon in 2011 with Karl and Tall Robbie, so I need to start training now. Slow and steady is the game for this one I think.
Lose more weight - last year I lost (cough) 2 stone in weight, but to get to the right weight for my BMI there’s still 2 more to go - so with continual exercise and the help of WW - I hope to reach my goal weight this year. Again, slow and steady.

Remember exercise should be fun and doesn’t have to be in the gym - with that in mind, I learnt to climb at my local climbing centre over the Xmas holidays, so plan to do a bit more of that. It’s also been over a year since I last went to a pole dancing class so have booked in for a taster session at the end of January, and plan to go back to classes in Feb (not for everyone I know, but it’s great fun and I love it), and when it gets lighter in the evenings will head back down to Trapeze class in south London. In between, there’s always walking, weekend bike rides, trampolining, hula hooping, the Wii and anything else that sounds like fun

I did it, I finally actually did it. I manage to straddle up and get onto the bar myself - no one to catch my legs, no one to push them up and under the bar - all on my own. Now it wasn’t pretty, and it was quite messy, but it wasn’t a fluke, I managed to do it all night on my own. I am so happy that all the bruises and callouses in the world today won’t take it away.
Did the hardcore circus conditioning class first followed by trapze. This week, after the usual bout of killer conditioning we did straddle in the ropes (I got up on my own but needed help with holding the straddle), front balance (almost got into this on my own too - it’s all starting to come together), star in the ropes, star on the bar, sit to birdsnest, lamppost and hammock (didn’t try it my arms had gone and it was the last trick of the class).

Felt good to be back after a week off, I’d surprisingly missed my class.
Lots of upper body and abs today, but have asked my trainer to start pushing me more on the running and help build me up to a 5k run (at the moment I can only do about a mile) and not let me make excuses not to do it - so watch this space.
